The next generation!

Hey, its the last day, for reals this time! Bye bye Aiden Marshall Mello and Noah James Mello, we have had a good run.

Monday, April 7, 2014

We have all been blessed with an extra day with our babies today. This is due to teacher absence, but I don't mind it at all, since I have no plans to bake my babies into cookies, cakes, pies, or throw them on the ground to watch them explode. So one more day with little Noah James Mello and Aiden Marshall Mello, and then we part ways :,(
Soaking up the moments with the boys, cause tomorrow is our last day together. Sad because I just started to get the hang of things. People at the Riviera have stopped looking at me like I'm crazy now, because of how often I go there. I can now multi task extremely well, my arms have gained some muscle :P and I have learned further to put the boys needs before my own. I have definitely grown closer and closer to them everyday, and to have to put an end to that soon will be tough. Yes I will address the elephant in the room, these are flour sacks for goodness sake, but when you are assigned this project, and if you do it properly, then you start to feel almost attached to them. You treat them as if they are your real children, and to just , i dunno, use them as flour after 2 weeks is going to be weird. From this project I have learned the obvious responsibility involved in raising a child, let alone twins. It becomes twice as difficult. You start to have less plans, work your schedule around when you have to work or get a babysitter which adds up quickly, and that there is more involved then you might think. That is all. It is another round of feeding for Aiden and Noah, then a short rest for myself, because we all know newborns are little piggies when it comes to food.
Hunger strikes again

It was chilly in our house today :/ Noah doesn't seem to mind though

One down, one to go

Yes they do have the same beanies, Aiden wanted to be just like his brother, go figure.

So yesterday was a big day for the twins, their first time with their auntie Megan, who watched them while I went to work.I packed up their diaper bag and dropped then off at Megan's work at about 3:30, here are a few pictures of me and them before I go to work:

Of course the pacifiers, seems like I cant ever wrestle those away from them now

Of course I was pretty bummed to have to bring them to a babysitter because I have only had them about 2 weeks now, and I don't want to spend any time away from them, but I have to work so that I can provide for them, and anyhow Megan is great with kids, so they were in good hands. The following is a babysitters report from Megan, and some pictures she took of them.

Megan's Report

Man, oh man…what a day! Savannah dropped these two cuties off with me around 3:30 today. I was still at work. It's probably a bit odd to have two infants at work (especially when your job involves alcohol), but they were very well behaved and just smiled the whole time.

We left work around 5:15 and headed for my house. They don't quite fill out their car seats yet, but they seemed to be safe and secure.

I fed them immediately after we arrived home. They were famished! They were a little gassy afterwards, but I managed to get some big burps out of them and then they were fine.

After din din we took a bath. I'm not sure if you're really supposed to give baths to infants, but they were pretty smelly so I thought it was a good idea. Noah loved splashing in the water, but Aiden hated getting water in his eyes so he wasn't really a fan.

After bath time we played with the provided stuffed animal toy. They seemed really fond of it. However, they got a little restless and decided to take their first steps! I'm so sorry Savannah wasn't here to witness the amazing miracle. I think they set the Guinness Book of World Records for the youngest babies to every walk. I wouldn't have expected anything less from the children of Savannah though!

They were tuckered out from walking all over the house, but it was too early for bed time so I decided to give them a haircut. I wanted them to look really nice when their mom picked them up. I hope she approves.

I put them to bed around 7:30 just as their mom had instructed. They would NOT close their eyes though so I gave them both some eye masks to force them to rest. They fell asleep immediately and rested until their mom came to pick them up.

I really enjoyed babysitting these angels. My own baby, Zulu, was a bit jealous of all the attention these little nuggets were getting, but she eventually warmed up to them and told me she'd love for them to visit any time.

Bath time!

The twins took their first steps today. Not to brag or anything, but they are very advanced for their age!

These kids are a handful and I needed a break. Gossip Girl to the rescue. I covered their eyes during the "mature" scenes.

Taught them a new trick!

Decided to give them their first haircuts. I hope their mom is okay with missing all these important milestones.

Singing lullabies to my sweet sacks of flour.

So as you can see I think that my boys were well taken care of while I was gone, and was very happy to see that they enjoyed their visit :)

Everything is well here at the Mello household. Haven't been able to upload any pictures recently because of phone difficulties, but I will try again tomorrow. These past 2 weeks have been some of the best memories and moments I have had. Just the other day the boys started figuring out their hands, and heaven forbid the toes are next :P I got them both pacifiers today to see if they would take to it, and I can't thank the creator of those things enough. It is suddenly a little more peaceful around here. Anyway nothing to exciting happening right now, just soaking up the time I have with Aiden and Noah. Tomorrow they are going to see their Aunt Megan for a little bit while my mother and I go out to the movies, so we will see how that goes. Update tomorrow, gotta go, I here the hungry cry.

Its now spring break time, so I took this opportunity to go visit my brother and his fiance with my mom in Trinidad. The boys are having a great time down here! They went on their first semi-long road trip, went to the beach, went for a walk around the area, went out to have pizza, and took a walk down by the river. I have gotten a few pictures of them, which I will post later when I get better cell service. Anyway the Mellos are having a great time currently.

Today was, as we all know is gray day!! Every Friday for the past few months has been gray day, and I intend to pass down this tradition to my boys :) Family photo for gray day in 3...2...1...

One more post for the day, then I'm off to bed. These are the carriers I'm currently using to hold Noah and Aiden. These are obviously only temporary. As they grow bigger they will need more space, bigger carries, or strollers.
The sling that I sewed, with a regular flour sack for size comparison

And the wooden carrier I made in wood shop with a seat belt cover for added comfort :)

It has come to my attention in the past week that some people just don't know how to properly put a diaper on a baby. Which is no ones fault, but it is a skill your going to need to learn, whether you are babysitting or you are having a kid of your own. Its not hard, don't fret. Here is the how to step by step of how to put a diaper on a baby (flour sack baby, Noah in this case).
Step 1: Open the diaper, with the sticky wings in the back

Step 2: Set your baby on the back of the diaper (facing up of course)

Step 3: Fold the front of the diaper on top of your baby, just below where Noah's bellybutton should be

Step 4:  Fold the sides of the top piece down toward the sticky wings

Step 5: Pull open the wings where the wavy section is

Step 6: Pull the sticky wing on tho the front of the diaper, and press it down gently, but make sure it sticks

Step 7: Do the same to the other side, and your baby is dry and happy :)

If your baby ends up something like this:
Then you messed up and need to refer back to step 1
Had a very busy day today!! It was my first day back to school after my surgery, and the second time the boys have been 'out and about'. Since the unfortunate placement of one of my incisions, the sling I have been using to carry either Aiden or Noah in is unusable. This meant that today the twin shared the carrier I made in wood shop. Let me just say that I am pretty sure I can do a one armed pull up with ease now. Carrying both of the boys in the carrier with one arm was a work out, and I had to constantly switch off arms. Just in case someone didn't catch that, babies are HEAVY. Going to try the sling tomorrow to try and give my arm a break. On the plus side Aiden and Noah had a play date today with Sheldon, Elisa's little boy. They hung out in wood shop together learning the tools of the trade like their mommies did their first day :)

It was also an FFA extended lunch day so Sheldon, Noah, Aiden, Tori's two boys, and Alyssa's little girl: Ava hung out on Tori's truck to enjoy some sun (what was left of it anyways). They also had an encounter with a curious puppy today, which I wish I had a picture of, but the memory is just as good. All in all a pretty good day, my two little champs are sound asleep, and awaiting their next adventure.

Little update on my boys. Im still recovering from my surgery, but that doesn't mean I can neglect my mother responsibilities. I love them dearly, but feeding twins can be a challenge. It was okay at first, feed them every two hours and they sleep in between, but once Aiden decided he was going to sleep one hour later than Noah, it threw off the whole schedule. No more sleep for the mama -_- Very tired, but my lovely mom is stepping in tonight so that I can get some rest :) If you can get a helping hand during your first few months, trust me, its like a god sent!

Just A Few Questions :

1. In the "If I Became a Teen Parent" the response I received from mom did not comes as a surprise or a shock to me. As I assume my mom said that she would be disappointed in me for all my lost opportunities, but that she would help and support me because she went through a pregnancy as a teen.

2. What responses to the flour baby project surprised you? Well as I guessed would happen you get funny looks at stores for sure. At first its like a shocked "OMG she has two babies!! and she looks 12!!" then once they notice they aren't real babies then they usually just laugh and think im crazy : P

3. In What ways should we have started this project differently? We might have shown how we baby-proofed the house because that definitely an important step in preparing for a baby. Also research for girls what your going to have to go through, ex: cravings, mood swings, morning sickness. For the boys they are going to have to research how to take care of their wife while they are going through these things. Another big thing that I did that was important and very hard was installing a car seat. Even if the student didn't borrow one for the project at least have them try to put one in a car, waaayyy harder than you think.

4. What was the most surprising thing about the "Baby Cost project"? Well we all guess it would cost ALOT of money to raise a baby, but when you got down to the end of the project, it was way more than you thought. Babies are expensive little money suckers.

Well, a lot has happened since my last post, and its only been like a day! Suprise! I had my two boys Wednesday night, Noah James Mello at 10:32 am weighing 5 lbs, and Aiden Marshall Mello at 10:40 am also weighing 5lbs. Im so glad they are here, even if they did come a little earlier and unexpected. The only downside was that I was scheduled for a gallbladder removal surgery Thursday at 6:30 which was a tough thing because I now have these two little monkey's attached at my hip :P Luckily I had my amazing mom to babysit while I was out, and now the three of us are laying in bed hoping for a speedy recovery :) One last thing,  i got two of my nurses to taked a picture with the boys! I'll post pictures tomorrow. XOXO

Just tried to put the car seats in my car, and let me just tell you that no one prepares you for what a struggle this is. The instructions might as well be in Chinese, cause i cant understand a word they are saying. Phew felt like I just ran a marathon, but they are both secured and ready in the car, thanks to my mom for the extra help :)

Well heading back to the hospital today, I dont think these are the Braxton Hicks kind. This could be the real deal. Oh and by the way I decided on Noah James Mello and Aiden Marshall Mello, the thought that they we be here so soon is still unreal, I cant wait.

Monday, March 17, 2014

Well, I probably should have created this blog sooner, but now is better than never! This is where I will post all baby updates for my soon to be twin boys (names still undecided). As of now expected delivery date is Monday the 24th, so I have been collecting supplies, and baby-proofing the house, but I have been feeling strong labor pains all day. Going in now to check in at the hospital (with diaper bag in tow, just in case). Ill be thinking of baby names on the way, so far the list is Charlie, Lucas, Aiden, Hunter, Riley, Jayden, Noah, Joel, Caleb, Blake, Cole, and Finn.

(Update): Contractions were just what they call Braxton Hicks contractions, which someone told me would happen, but its so hard to tell, better safe than sorry. Maybe I should name one of my sons Braxton...?
